Bumble Bee entering nest
(Added to iSpot on 9th July 2009)
This bees nest is under a Laylandii tree by a wood pile. The bees can be seen coming and going regularly throughout the day usually in twos and threes.
Location: Horncastle - Garden

Bombus lapidarius
Agreed - it's the right shape and tail colour. It can't be the red-tailed cuckoo bee, Bombus rupestris, as it is carrying pollen, and we should be able to rule out the other, rarer, red-tailed species, Bombus ruderarius, as you are too far north for that (further south you need to check the colour of the hairs along the edge of the hind tibia - red for ruderarius, black for lapidarius).
