woodland grass
(Added to iSpot on 20th October 2012)
The only fruting grass species in Hough Common (an acid woodland). A bunch grass, with narrow, branched, infructescences. In the process of dieing back.
Identifications Confidence: It might be this.
Notes: This is not Deschampsia caespitosa (lacks the distinctive rough leaves). I though it might be Milium effusum , but as far as I know the infructescences of this don't close up after flowering. Of other woodland grasses, obviously not Bromopsis ramosa , Brachypodium sylvaticum or Schedonorus giganteus . I've seem Molinia caerulea on a variety of acid sites (moorland, lowland moss, acid woodland) and the shade forms do seem to be paler, but this was sufficiently lacking in colour that an identification as Molinia caerulea didn't come immediately to mind, but the habitat is reasonable for this species. (Or it could be one of the grasses that I can't identify.)
Species interactions No interactions present.

Comments
Molinia
It looks like Molinia, but it is hard to be certain. Molinia ligule is a ring of hairs which not many other grasses share.
