Cannot match the two distinct round marks below the head with a moth. It does not look faded so confused. now wondering if it IS faded and is an Ingrailed Clay (Diarsia mendica)?

Flounced Chestnut

This is a lovely moth which I don't see very often (in fact I last recorded it myself in 1996, although I was shown one in someone else's moth trap just this weekend). It is rather variable, but your photo is quite a good match for one of the examples on UKmoths:

It's too late in the year for Ingrailed Clay (another very variable species!).

Comparing just the patterns, I can see now that it matches with a Flounced Chestnut. But is the rather duller colour than the illustrations due to it being a northern variation or maybe an older faded moth.
What every the reason it is as you say a lovely moth
I must look first more at markings and shape than identical colouring.
